Description
Prajnaparamita, the “Great Mother,” is the primordial wisdom that gives birth to all Buddhas. She embodies the realization of emptiness (shunyata), the true nature of reality. In our lineage, her practice is central to the Chokling Tersar tradition, guiding practitioners to merge their own minds with boundless, primordial awareness under the guidance of our masters.
For students of Tara’s Triple Excellence, Prajñāpāramitā may be especially meaningful as she is introduced in the Third Excellence as the embodiment of transcendent wisdom and the dharmakāya aspect of Green Tara. Both Tara and Prajñāpāramitā are known as the “mother of all the buddhas,” representing the unity of wisdom and emptiness—the enlightened mind of all buddhas.
The Dharmachakra Mudra
The gesture of turning the Wheel of Dharma represents the active, compassionate transmission of the teachings. Hands held at the heart symbolize the union of wisdom and means. In this form, the Great Mother manifests as the supreme teacher, actively awakening beings from the illusions of dualism.
The Dhyana Mudra
The gesture of meditative equipoise expresses absolute stillness and unshakeable concentration. Hands rest flat in the lap, thumbs touching to symbolize the fusion of bliss and emptiness. This mudra represents the mind resting completely undisturbed in the spacious, natural state of reality.
